NATIONAL MEMORIAL FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, shot for the New York Times
Montgomery, Alabama

“52 Places to go in 2024”

These harrowing grounds represent the 800 counties where known lynchings occurred and the enslaved souls, named and unknown, whose lives were taken. Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, sought to confront the unspoken truths of our past and continued systemic injustice in leading the initiative to erect this memorial unlike any other in our nation.
